HORIZON
In this unique penthouse with a view of the Saronic Gulf horizon, our primary goal was to create a restorative interior, facing as the first challenge the combination of two seemingly contradictory concepts: youthful energy and serenity. In design terms, this was translated into an open layout, with a balance of “empty” and “filled” areas, lush planting, and comfortable furnishing. Throughout the space, a pink palette predominates, through which feelings of joy and optimism emerge all year round, while targeted red accents highlight key focal points such as the fireplace and the kitchen island.
Through its wide window, warm afternoon light enters the kitchen area making it the ideal place to languidly spend time during the summer afternoons – and not only then. The central wooden table is connected to the kitchen island, thus contributing to the optimal utilization of the available space.
There are also several futuristic elements present, such as the depicted storage cabinet with mirror that resembles airplane windows, the chairs, or the elevated kitchen island.
The above color uniformity (primarily showcased through the unified pink flooring) is one of the many design elements we used to connect the interior with the exterior. Another such “connecting link” is the placement of similar circumferential plants both inside and outside of the house. The balcony has been designed in a way to be ideal for both private moments and large gatherings, as it is spacious and features an outdoor kitchen.
Ascending to the upper floor, we move to the most private part of the residence. This includes the bedroom, the gym, and the second outdoor balcony. Here, our biggest challenge was to insinuate privacy while still allowing the space to be used for social purposes. Privacy gives way to sociability, relaxation to activity, all masterfully blended for a multi-dimensional and effortlessly luxurious result.
In the home gym, which is directly connected to the upper balcony, the materials and colors harmonize with the natural surroundings, appropriately highlighting the wider exterior environment.
Behind the gym is the master bedroom, with the bed centrally positioned, facing the horizon. In front of it, we have placed a wall-mounted circular light fixture that mimics the setting of the sun in the same direction. On the other side is the bathroom. The unique vanity unit, custom-made from natural stone, is also centrally positioned, facing the side view of Voula, and features full-length mirrors on the back side.
The reflective surface of the room’s sloping ceiling forms into a shelf that extends along the back wall. Various everyday objects can be placed on it as exhibits, becoming themselves design elements.The final touch to the scene is the imposing bed, reminiscent of a cloud or a giant marshmallow.
