DOLCE FAR NIENTE
“Dolce far niente,” or “The art of doing nothing,” is the most suitable phrase to describe this upcoming hotel. Built just a few steps above the iconic “golden” beach of Amorgos, Levrossos, it may be the island’s first luxury hotel. Thus, here we have the opportunity to define ourselves what “luxury” means in this place. A luxury that is wild, natural, raw—framed by a mesmerizing space where the sea’s waves are heard amphitheatrically at every point, and the island’s view astonishes in every direction.
The first group of rooms, named “Ioli,” is located on the lowest level of the property, right above the beach. Thus, we attempted to transfer the image of the external golden sand into the interior of the rooms, presenting it as if it penetrates the space and “molds” the floor. The above sensation of the sliding flow of sand reflects the leisurely mood of carefree summer days at the beach. Naturally, such an open concept also requires appropriate delineation. This was achieved through vertical design elements, such as curtains or room dividers.
The furniture, lighting fixtures, and other functional pieces, such as mirrors or dressers, have been specially crafted by our studio. Our goal was for each to have its own essence, yet complement each other, like pieces of a summer puzzle on a golden canvas.
The “Sacred,” the second group of rooms, is located on the middle level of the hotel’s hill. The beach atmosphere continues here, in a climate of simplicity and spirituality. The bathtub is accessible through a semi-transparent curtain, reminiscent of a church sanctuary. The bathroom, in general, serves as the “sacred” part of the room, symbolizing the sacred moment of relaxation in the bathtub after an intense day at the beach, or the freshness of a rejuvenating shower during a warm midday.
The “Eyries,” the last and smallest group of rooms, are located on the highest level of the hotel. While they may elevate adrenaline due to their height, they also induce calmness due to their cozy and comfortable interior. At the center of each room is the large bed. This is harmonized chromatically with the white-gold hues of the wallpaper, which, despite the height, create a sense of grounding.
